When God is Silent

There was a time where I went to the top of a parking garage. It was all empty, except for a few cars. It was just around sunset hour: the sky dimmed with vibrant but soft colors stretched across the faint blue canvas. I went on up and all the way to the far end where the wall overlooks the city. I was so eager to talk to God.

Staring at the open sky, I felt so distant. Whenever I feel distant, I have to remind myself that God isn't far. He's close beside me wherever I go. Sometimes it's just so easy to feel far when you can't hear him. I felt like He was silent in that period of time.

Maybe you're struggling to hear God's voice right now, or maybe haven't heard him at all before.

I love Jeremiah 29:12-13-
"You will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart."

Something I've found in my journey with the Lord, especially since He's made me new, is that I can't function without Him. I constantly need Him. Whenever the lies come, when my past that I've been released from haunts me. Even when things are going well, I need him. I'm dependent on Him. He is the breath in my lungs, the source of life flowing through my veins. If I don't take time to be with Him and hear him, I go crazy. Thank God that His Spirit is stronger than our ever-so-natural human nature right?!

But I constantly need the fuel to keep living my life for Him. And one thing that is so crucial in my walk is hearing God's voice. Hearing his direction in my life.

If you're going through a time where you feel God is silent or have never heard his voice, I promise you He will show up when you take time to draw near to him.

So, without further a-due... Here's some tips that will help you!

1) Spend time with Him!
You probably knew this one already, but I just challenge you, take 30 mins-1 hour everyday (you can definitely go longer!!) to spend time in the Word or watching a sermon!
If you don't know where to start, I would recommend either starting from the beginning, or picking a book (Like Psalm, Luke, John are some of my favorite starting points :)) & don't get discouraged while reading if you don't understand... I pray that God would help you experience him through his Word.
And oh man, sermons are definitely such a great way to hear the word if you're in the midst of a busy week or just like videos in general! Like, take me to church on a Tuesday.
Some of my favorites include:
-Relationship Goals
-Grace Like a Flood
(Anything by Pastor Mike Todd from Transformation Church!)
& I love watching the sermons from Elevation Church as well!!

2) Conversate with God all. the. time.
On the way to school, the grocery store, before meeting a friend, before an exam, before driving.
God has got you in everything, but we need to ask him! Ask him for favor in your job, ask him to put the right people in your path. He wants you to, it doesn't bother him at all! He wants you to lay your cares to him, no matter what it is. You are in good hands.

3) Get that Spotify bumpin'!

Y'all. If you don't have Air1 (105.5- which you should totally program to your radio) or a BUMPIN' worship playlist... I literally gotchu.
Pls. No obligation. But here is my spotify hehe. I recommend my "renew inspired" or "worship faves" playlist to start! :)
You now have new car jams. Yessss! And the best part of it all is... it's music that helps you grow closer to God. It's all praise, praise, and more praise.

And remember, you are never far. There is nothing you could ever do or say to make God love you any less than he does right now. He loves you right now. Even in your mess and mistakes. And He wants you to come to him just as you are!

I leave you with this:
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,  nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38

Love,
Rithika <3
